What is it? Chromium is a component of the glucose tolerance factor (GTF), which works with insulin to regulate blood sugar levels. In addition, it may help reactive hypoglycemia, and other carbohydrate management conditions. Studies indicate that chromium may help preserve muscle mass while dieting. Chromium is a trace element needed by the body and may help ward off sugar cravings and control appetite. A deficiency in chromium can cause insulin resistance. Supplementation may help the body to use insulin more effectively in some cases. Sources of chromium include: whole grains, meat, chicken, dairy products, cheese, eggs, mushrooms and broccoli. Many people don’t get enough chromium in their diet due to overprocessed foods and high sugar diets. The form of chromium in many foods may also be difficult to absorb. |
